Look out for the migratory clouded yellow butterfly (Colias croceus) during September and October foraging for nectar on late flowering plants in coastal grassland and gardens.

The larvae of the species feed on clovers and other legumes such as bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus). Records of the species in Hastings are concentrated mainly on coastal grassland at Bulverhythe Cliffs and Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve.
